Smiles and Cries

I have been in one long training since moving to New York, and it only seems appropriate that the movie I have been watching all week long is "Training Day." (Although my life is nothing like the actual movie).

Anyways, early in the movie, one quote did get me thingking when Jake says he has the streets figured out: "It's all smiles and cries...You gotta control your smiles and cries. No one can take them away so... they're all we really have."

Not much else to say... It's all smiles and cries...

Exactly, because smiling is a sign of happiness thus, letting your guard down leading to weakness, which is a sign of vunerability...not good in the hood! And cring, obviously, is a sign of weakness, fear and lack of understanding, which leads to vunerability...which is not good in the hood!
Hope you have a success story to tell about your transition, thus far.

too true, our smiles and cries mortilize us. material things and society can make us of the world. nevertheless, our smiles and cries is wat makes us human and alive. our ability to control and utilize wat cant be taken away is wat makes the difference between you and me. weather we decide to pursue or excuse all obsticles is based on how we "control our smiles and cries".

training day is my favorite flick because of that scene
